DOES YOUR NEW ROLL OF CONVEYOR BELTING LOOK LIKE A FLAT TIRE?

The belt is a very expensive part of your conveyor. You spend a lot of money on the belt and a lot of money protecting it from damage while it is in operation. You're getting ready to install the new belt and while looking at the roll, you notice It looks like a flat tire. What happened? 

 I will tell you what didn't happen...proper belt storage (as seen below). 

How To Properly Store Your Belt:

1. Never store on the ground as this concentrates the weight of the roll onto the bottom surface, causing belt camber
2. Never store on the belt's side...this will also cause camber
3. Store in an upright position on a stand and off the ground
4. Rotate/turn a fourth turn every 90 days
5. Store inside or covered and away from the elements that can cause it to have a shorter life span
6. Prevent damage to the belt edges by using a spreader bar when lifting the roll 

Your new belting should be delivered to you in a nice round shape, and you should take steps to keep it that way. When it is rolled out and ready to install, it should be straight and not warped. Improper storage techniques can lead to a damaged belt that will perform poorly when installed on the conveyor structure. Following these basic rules should help you get the most out of your belt. Nobody wants a flat tire.
