Problem
An Arizona copper mine was experiencing excessive spillage from their conveyor belts feeding materials to the crushing facility. The carryback was so excessive they had to clean the area once per shift. This required cleanup put workers in close proximity to moving parts, increasing safety risks.
Solution
Martin recommended a new cleaning system which included the Martin® QC1+™ Cleaner XHD with a SQC2S™ Secondary Cleaner. The QC1+™ Cleaner XHD is engineered to preserve the cleaning edge from high belt speeds and multiple splices and provides durable performance in challenging applications. The patented “CARP" (Constant Angle Radial Pressure) design helps the blade maintain cleaning performance throughout the blade’s life. The rugged steel mainframe holds the cleaner snugly to the backbone. Martin used a specially-formulated brown blade to improve the resistance to chemicals used in copper leaching.
The Martin® SQC2S™ Secondary Cleaner incorporates individually-cushioned tungsten carbide blades to effectively clean the belt without risk to the belt, splice, or blade. Blade replacement is simple and the design allows for installation in close quarters.
Results
The customer is now saving $22,000 per week and the cleaning requirements have changed drastically. “We are cleaning the area once every 4-5 days now. The scraper system is very simple to install and maintain. The system pays for itself every day we run. I’m working on installing more of them in other parts of the plant.”
