Problem
At a major cement plant located in Pacasmayo – Peru, a critical issue was
identified on a 30” wide conveyor belt receiving material from six feeders.
In this area, a significant amount of fugitive material was generated, with
fine particles remaining suspended in the air. This condition adversely
impacted conveyor components and posed health risks to personnel
performing inspections and maintenance activities.
Solution
After a detailed evaluation, an integrated solution was implemented
through the installation of a single chute, unifying the six loading points.
To control fugitive material, dust collection bags were installed after each
loading zone, dual-lip skirting was used for efficient sealing of fine
material, and support/sealing beds were installed at each loading point to ensure effective containment.
Results
As a result, a significant reduction in airborne dust and fugitive material
on the conveyor was achieved. The material remained confined within
the loading chute, thanks to the efficiency of the implemented system
and the preventive maintenance with periodic adjustments to the
skirting, thereby improving safety, cleanliness, and operational conditions
in the loading zone.
