From Spillage to Stability: Martin® Diagonal Plow Stops Belt and Pulley Damage

Problem

A long-distance belt conveyor at a renowned mining company in Canaã dos Carajás faced recurring challenges with material spillage at the loading point and other locations. This created a serious risk of roller drop on the inner side, which could cause extensive damage to the tail pulley and the belt itself. These incidents resulted in significant losses, making it essential to adopt devices that could block or reduce the chances of damage to components and tears in the belt.

Solution

After a technical diagnosis by Martin Engineering, the Martin® Diagonal Plow with telescopic protective screen was installed, specifically designed for application in drive and belt tensioning areas. Positioned near the return, the cleaner acts as a damage prevention solution, serving as a preventive agent that reduces maintenance costs, breakdowns, and unexpected belt and/or pulley replacements. The design facilitates installation and part replacement, providing longer service life and high efficiency, while the protective screen requires a minimum installation height of 450 mm, adjustable up to 550 mm.

Results

The results were literally visible! During a routine inspection, various materials removed by the Martin® Diagonal Plow were identified, including small ore grains, large rock blocks, and even a load roller. These discarded materials highlighted the importance of the accessory in preventing damage to the belt and other conveyor components.
