Martin® Chevron Cleaner: Protecting Every Step Beneath the Conveyor

Problem

An energy biomass power plant faced a persistent issue with wood fiber spillage accumulating under the Buffalo Feeder conveyor. This spillage was largely due to the 'wing pulley' design, which made it challenging to find a compatible cleaning solution that could fit within the confined space around the conveyor. The excessive buildup of fine wood fiber not only interfered with operations but also created a serious safety hazard, as the area directly beneath the conveyor serves as a walkway for employees. The spillage posed significant risks of slips, trips, and falls, threatening the safety of the workforce navigating this pathway daily.

Solution

A Martin Engineering sales engineer conducted a site visit to assess the Buffalo Feeder conveyor and its spillage issues. Due to the conveyor's space constraints and design, the engineer recommended the Martin® Chevron Cleaner as the optimal solution. The chevron cleaner's design allows it to handle fine wood fiber material effectively, preventing spillage while working efficiently within the system's limitations. This solution significantly reduced wood fiber spillage, creating a safer environment for employees who use the area as a walkway.

Results

The significant reduction in spillage has minimized the need for frequent manual cleanup, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing maintenance requirements. The reduced spillage also greatly improves safety, as it minimizes slip, trip, and fall hazards for employees who regularly traverse the area beneath the conveyor. The customer expressed satisfaction, stating, "Less spillage translates to less downtime needed for cleaning and has improved overall workflow and productivity. The support we received from the Sales Engineer, along with his recommendation of a specialized cleaner, truly came to our rescue."
