Tail Pulley Protection Prevents Equipment Damage

Problem

A major mining operation in Peru was facing challenges in one of its material handling systems. The conveyor belt had a protection device installed at the tail pulley, but its design did not effectively prevent the entrapment of objects between the belt and the pulley, which could cause severe damage to the system. In addition to failing to meet CEMA standards, the equipment’s structure caused accelerated wear on the inner cover of the belt, reducing its service life and directly impacting the reliability of the conveyor. This situation also made operation and maintenance tasks more complex, increasing downtime and associated costs.

Solution

VPLOWXHDThe operation opted for the installation of the Martin®V-Plow XHD, equipped with a tensioning system calibrated according to CEMA recommendations (0.35 N/mm of belt width). This solution eliminated potential sources of damage to the tail pulley and the belt, improving system efficiency and significantly reducing energy consumption compared to the previous equipment.

Results

PSPBlog_Peru_VPlow_ResultsWith the implementation of the V-Plow XHD, the operation achieved immediate results, including:

         - Application of firm yet flexible pressure, in compliance with CEMA standards
         - Effective protection of the tail pulley and conveyor belt
         - Faster, safer, and easier installation and maintenance for the work team
