With Halloween right around the corner, I've got trick-or-treating on the brain and the days of me having any input on my sons' costumes are long gone. ๐ป
At least I have photographic evidence that they once dressed as something cute and themed (cow and cowboy, firemen, a chicken, hunters and a deer). I knew, based on my boys' character traits, the days of scary, creepy, and gory costumes would soon come.
My coworker, Kari, and I were just talking about the differences of boymoms and girlmoms (at least in our households) at Halloween (and year round) so she is going to help me out and co-author this blog post.
Carryback & Costumes: Considering Characteristics
As we started comparing the different costume preferences, attitudes, and personalities (case and point, this photo from Halloween past = a tough, muscular power ranger & a cute Disney princess), we realized how similar this can be to the different kinds of material being conveyed and the properties of carryback. Just as there is that one perfect costume to suit a trick-or-treater's characteristics, there is that one perfect belt cleaner blade to suit the material's characteristics.
An operation should select the proper type of belt cleaner blade to suit the material and environment like our kids are choosing costumes that best suit their characteristics. Neither situation seems to benefit from a one-size-fits-all approach. That is exactly why we offer an entire line of color-coded urethane to match performance with application.

Terrifying Properties of Carryback
Carryback, depending on the industry, material, and environment, can range from easy to remove to extremely difficult. Sticky, resinous substances typically seen in the pulp and paper industry can give standard belt cleaners blades a run for their money and would be better matched to a low-adhesion blade designed to handle tacky products. High-moisture environments benefit from a chemical-resistant urethane and so on.
Depending on the severity of the carryback, multiple belt cleaners might be needed to effectively remedy the frightful situation. Primary belt cleaners typically remove 50% of carryback while secondary and tertiary cleaners remove residual material left on the belt. The Nature of Carryback
In our personal opinion, we relate aggressive and stubborn carryback to my tough, rambunctious, violent, and combative boys and easy-to-remove carryback to Kari's sweet, gentle, and peaceful girl. We also believe that on a daily basis, Kari's house is more conducive to cleaning and would thrive with typical cleaning supplies, like a standard Martin Orange belt cleaner blade, and mine is a nightmare that definitely requires the big guns, such as a high-temperature green blade!
To support my theory, this year I have a very creepy masked-13 year old, a tough & bloody football player, and a 7-year old who plays the part of Michael Myers a little too well (I will be sleeping with one eye open๐ช). Since the costume arrived, he has been randomly putting on the mask to lovingly scare the bejesus out of me (and our dog, Hank โฌ๏ธ).
It certainly takes all kinds of kinds to keep the world moving and we appreciate the strong-headed opinions and character traits of our kiddos (as trying as it may be sometimes). In closing, make sure to choose the things - Halloween costumes and belt cleaner blades - that work for you and your crew. Don't let carryback be a killer of productivity and safety.
